You need to have a computer system with an active internet connection. If you don’t have one or you can’t arrange for one you can go to any cyber café in India which are in abundance there.
You need to browse into the website of the Indian Railways that is www.erail.in . Thereafter select the city names from and to the field you want to search the available trains for. Click on the city name combination which will be on your right hand side and you will be able to view the list of the trains plying in between the cities.
Now click on the train number shown on the extreme left of the result window. This gives you the route details and even the costs involved in the journey you will be undertaking.
You can check the availability status of the train you will be provided with the link which says ‘Av’. It will be on the right side of the result window, under the class like 2A, 3A, CC etc.
Thereafter log on to the website called www.irtc.co.in to book your tickets on the internet in the train of your choice.
