How to Write a Perfect Winning Letter
Today is the age of e-mail and contact forms. Hence writing a letter may seem like an ancient ritual to you that is being practiced only by those of earlier generations. But when you express yourself on paper it shows effort, respect and care for others.
Always put all the information that the reader would want to know at the beginning of your letter, even before you begin to write the body. In case you are writing to a close friend, you will not need much except the date, to remember when the letter was received. In case you are writing a business letter, the reader may not even know who wrote this letter. Hence, the arrangement of this information depends on what kind of letter you're writing, but you need to provide it neatly and completely. You should write your address, sometimes including contact information. Some people may prefer to write this out at the bottom of the letter, right under the signature and printed name. Alternately, this can also go at the top like a letterhead.
You need to put in the recipient's name, address as well as contact information. Then put in the date followed by a subject line, which is usually beginning with "Re:" Next step is that the opening should begin at the left side of the page, not the middle or up against the right side of the sheet. The most common opening is "Dear" followed by the person's first name and then a comma. For a more casual approach, you can write "Hello (name)," or "Hey (name)". Sometimes, if you do not know the recipient's name, you can write "To Whom It May Concern:"
Now tailor your opening to the recipient. If the letter is casual, you can begin with, "What's up?" or a simple "How are you?" is fine. But if it is a business letter, be direct about why you are writing this letter. Summarize your intentions and be absolutely sure to write clearly so that the reader will be able to understand you.
